MyPlastic - Eliza Bonham Carter
We surround ourselves with powerful objects that either spark memories of times gone by or that we would find hard to live without. They can comfort us, make our lives a little easier, or remind us of special people. In these unpredictable times of national lockdown, partial opening, and then closing down again we have decided to reissue a project which explored these emotive objects. The original project combined a physical exhibition with digital films highlighting the very personal connections and relationships we have with particular objects made of plastics. This reissue digital exhibition showcases the videos made for the original project and features stories from designers, humanitarian documentary makers, animators, monster makers, and academics. These stories demonstrate how objects can be loaded with emotions, memories and meaning. Eliza Bonham Carter is the Curator and Head of the Royal Academy Schools. In this film she talks about functionality, beauty, and restocking her supply of paperclips. “I got to the end of my little stash about a year ago”
